Missional Church (2026)

Missional Church

Beginning this month, West Point Grey Baptist Church will enter a new sermon series focused on what it means to be a missional church. This series will run through June, with a pause during Lent and Easter, as we reflect together on God’s calling for us, not only as individuals, but as a community sent into the world.

At its heart, a missional church understands that mission is not just one program of the church; it is the very identity of the church. God is already at work in our neighbourhoods, workplaces, schools, and relationships, and we are invited to join in what God is doing right where we are. Mission is not something “out there” only; it begins here, among our neighbours in West Point Grey and the wider city of Vancouver.

This series will draw from the rich biblical vision of integral mission, the conviction that the gospel speaks to the whole of life. Integral mission reminds us that word and deed belong together. Proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and demonstrating God’s love through acts of justice, compassion, hospitality, and care are not competing priorities; they are inseparable expressions of the same gospel. Jesus announced the kingdom of God and embodied it, he taught, healed, welcomed, confronted injustice, and restored dignity. The church is called to do the same.

Throughout this series, we will explore questions such as: What does it look like to live as sent people in our everyday lives? How do we bear faithful witness to Christ through both our words and our actions? How can our church engage mission locally in ways that are humble, attentive, and rooted in genuine relationships?

This will not be a series about adding more activities to already busy lives. Instead, it is an invitation to reimagine how our faith shapes the way we live, work, love, and serve right where God has placed us. Whether through small acts of neighbourly care, involvement in local initiatives, or deeper partnerships within our community, mission becomes part of our shared rhythm of discipleship.

As we journey through this series together, may God renew our vision, deepen our compassion, and form us into a church that reflects Christ’s love for the whole person and the whole community for the sake of God’s kingdom, here and now.
